NIYL has been announced as the sixth and final act vying for a chance to represent Ireland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Basel – with the song ‘Growth‘.
RTÉ has put out this biography about NIYL:
NIYL is a Limerick born artist who mixes a unique blend of emotionally fuelled vocals with an electronic sound to deliver a powerful, cinematic; original works. Inspired by artists including London Grammar, Woodkid and Yebba, NIYL has ambitions to establish a new sound within the Irish music industry. A lyricist who draws inspiration from his upbringing in the west of Ireland and the dramatic landscapes of the coast, NIYL writes as a means of catharsis, channelling emotions through word and song.
NIYL’s ambition is to shed light on the challenges and thrills that come with being ‘queer in the county’. As a queer Irish artist, NIYL’s songs look to amplify queer culture in the Irish music industry with his music. NIYL is currently in the midst of releasing his debut album Parish Is Burning which is being released across 2025. With three releases already published, NIYL has received national recognition from publications including RTE 2FM, Today FM, Hotpress, Extra.ie, The Irish Independent and Irish Examiner.
Speaking on the Ray D’Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1, NIYL said the song “pays homage to the roots of music, which started off as voice, the original instrument… and brings it more into modern, electronic sound… there’s going to be some dancers who are interpreting the faiths.”
On the Eurosong lineup in general, NIYL said that the final six are showcasing “how strong the Irish music industry is in terms of versatility, because I think there are so many artists making unbelievable music, and I think the selection this year really represents that.”
NIYL also said he couldn’t wait to perform on stage: “That’s my happy space, live on stage, so I can’t wait to give you an absolute show!”
NIYL will join five more acts – Bobbi Arlo, Reylta, ADGY, Samantha Mumba and EMMY – in RTÉ studios on Friday February 7th on the Late Late Show’s Eurosong Special, to choose Ireland’s representative for Eurovision 2025.
